Dear Denison Community,
We administered 218 signal tests on Monday. All of those tests have returned with no positive cases. We also retested the close contacts from last week’s five positive cases and those were all negative as well. Right now, we have seven COVID-19 cases on campus and 44 community members in quarantine (29 of whom are in on-campus quarantine spaces). All of this is very good news.
At this point, we are going to allow students to have guests in their residence hall rooms. We will go back to the guidelines of no more than 2 guests in our traditional residence hall rooms (singles, doubles, triples) and no more than 4 guests in suite or apartment style rooms. Masks and distancing are required (remember, maintaining six feet of distance will reduce the number of close contacts and therefore the number of students who would have to be in quarantine if a student tests positive).
While our campus viral health is good, we must keep in mind that the virus is among us -- it is prevalent across the country and here in Central Ohio, and it is likely that we will continue to have positive cases on campus. As we approach semester break, it is especially important that we remain vigilant so that students are healthy when they return to their home communities. So, please continue to abide by our COVID Community Care Guidelines. Our hard work and diligence are making a difference.
Some students have inquired about ways to get tested as they go home. We are working on a plan to make that option available to students who want it and will announce the details next week. We are also finalizing a website with registration information for the between-semester programming that will be offered by the Knowlton Center, Launch Lab, Red Frame Lab, the Lisska Center, and our International Student Services office. We’ll share more details on that next week as well.
Walking around campus, it’s clear that students are working hard. I know many of you are feeling tired -- the challenges and constraints of COVID have not been easy -- but I also know that you share my pride in what we have accomplished together as Denisonians this semester.
Thank you. Have a good weekend.
