We currently have no active COVID-19 cases within our campus community. We have all of the Vault Health test results back, except for a handful that are being retested because the original results were inconclusive. We have had inconclusive tests throughout the Vault testing process and have consistently re-run those tests, all of which have resulted in a conclusive outcome on the second try. We currently have 13 community members in quarantine (either because of needing to quarantine after returning from travel, because of potential exposure to COVID-19, or because they are awaiting test results). None of those 13 are in an on-campus quarantine space. Currently, no on-campus isolation or quarantine spaces are in use.
Since the start of the semester, we have administered 2,723 tests between our weekly signal testing and our recent Vault Health testing of all students. There have been a total of 10 active cases within our community since the beginning of the semester.
I am proud of our community and what we have accomplished together this fall. We are now eight weeks in, and we should all feel a sense of pride in how successfully we’ve navigated the challenges presented to us by the global pandemic. Thank you and let’s keep it up.
We have been successful because of our collective commitment to our community behaviors and we can only continue to be successful if we remain diligent. All members of our community must continue to wear masks, maintain 6 ft. of distance, frequently wash hands, and adhere to all of our community guidelines. We know that socializing indoors and traveling off campus introduce specific risks to our community, so I want to share three reminders:
Residential hall gatherings: Students must abide by capacity guidelines for in-room guests. Students who break capacity guidelines will be asked to leave campus. Masks and distancing are also required when socializing in residence hall rooms and we ask that doors and/or windows remain open to help with ventilation.
Off-campus student travel: I am hearing concerning reports of students traveling off campus for reasons that are not permitted within our guidelines. Students may travel to Granville, Newark, and Heath for groceries or restaurant take-out or drive through. All other off-campus travel is not permitted. We will take violations seriously. Because of the confined space, students should not travel in vehicles with others who are not their roommates.
Faculty and staff expectations: I ask faculty and staff to continue to be cautious in your activities outside of work. In addition to wearing masks, distancing, and washing hands, it is important that we are mindful of our social engagements. Please do not attend large gatherings and do not go to bars or restaurants where masks and distancing are not enforced. Finally, for those working on campus, I ask that you participate in signal testing if you are selected to do so. This is an important way for faculty and staff to support our efforts to sustain the health of our community.
