No student will have to pay out of pocket for COVID-19 testing.
We do two types of tests on campus: signal tests and diagnostic tests. Signal tests are administered to asymptomatic individuals and diagnostic tests are administered to individuals who have symptoms potentially consistent with COVID-19 and those identified as close contacts of a person who is infected with COVID-19.
Signal testing: This type of testing is paid for by the university - both the weekly signal testing of a percentage of the campus community that we have been doing since the beginning of the semester and the Vault test that we are about to administer to all students. Signal testing is not typically covered by insurance companies, but, again, Denison covers the cost of signal testing.
Diagnostic testing: Under the CARES Act, most insurance companies are covering COVID diagnostic testing (including Denison insurance). Students who get a diagnostic test but do not have Denison insurance can submit their bill to their insurance company (the same process that would be used for charges related to other types of diagnostic testing and other services provided by the Wellness Center). Support in navigating this process is available through Student Accounts and from Samantha Smith (financial wellness coordinator). If a student's insurance does not cover the cost of COVID-19 testing the university will ensure the cost ($100) is covered. No student will have to pay out of pocket.
